Stage
Training Apprentice Mentor Program
(STAMP)
We
are searching for talented teachers
to help with our after-school program
at General Smallwood Middle School.
A firm foundation in theatre arts
and/or teaching. Actors, directors,
english teachers, drama teachers...this
is a great part-time job for you!
Training
is provided. Competitive hourly wage.
Help us teach the exciting world
of theatre to 6th through 8th grade
children.
We
are introducing children to the world
of theatre in our innovative Stage
Training Apprentice Mentor Program
(STAMP), an after-school program
which touches on the main requirements
of the "No Child Left Behind"
act: fluency, phonics and phonemic
awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension
in a theatre arts setting.
Come
join us in this rewarding experience.
We're changing lives!

Program
coordinator Dr. William "Bill"
Barton has been workin on the youngster's
fluency and vocabulary as they learn
scripts. He also stresses clear enunciation
for performance purposes, which helps
with phonics and phonemic awareness.
By studying plays from different time
periods, students are introduced to
unusual turns of phrase and unfamiliar
concepts, which aids in comprehension.
To
prepare for the 2008-09 school year,
STAMP needs to start training at least
one other teacher right now. The program
also seeks other support people for
next school year. Dr Barton says he
envisions STAMP reaching far more
students as it grows. "I'd like
to see it in every school in Charles
County. I'll take as many kids and
mentors as will come."
STAMP
receives funding from grants and donations
and is offered at no charge to children
of greatest need. Donations may be
sent to CBFT, Inc, PO Box 1098, Indian
Head, MD 20640.
